Past Hurricanes
Hurricane Charley - 2004
Hurricane Charley made landfall on August 13 at its peak intensity of 150 mph in Punta Gorda, FL causing $16.9 billion in damages.
Hurricane Frances - 2004
Hurricane Frances slowly passed over the Florida Peninsula on September 4, just 3 weeks after Hurricane Charley. Frances caused over $10 billion in damages.
Hurricane Jeanne - 2004
Hurricane Jeanne was the 3rd hurricane to make landfall in Florida on September 25 as a Cat 3. It made landfall in the same place as Frances three weeks prior. Hurricane Jeanne caused almost $8 billion in damages.
Hurricane Ivan - 2004
On 16 September 2004, powerful Hurricane Ivan made landfall just west of Gulf Shores, AL as a Category 3 Hurricane. Hurricane Ivan caused widespread damage in the Caribbean and United States. Damages estimated near 14 billion US dollars.
Hurricane Katrina - 2005
Hurricane Katrina was a destructive Category 5 Atlantic hurricane that caused over 1,800 fatalities and $125 billion in damage in late August 2005, especially in the city of New Orleans and the surrounding areas. It was at the time the costliest tropical cyclone on record and is now tied with 2017's Hurricane Harvey.
Hurricane Wilma - 2005
Hurricane Wilma made several landfalls, with the most destructive effects felt in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, Cuba, and the U.S. state of Florida. At least 52 deaths were reported and damage totaled to $22.4 billion, most of which occurred in the United States.
Hurricane Ike - 2008
Hurricane Ike made landfall just southeast of the Houston-Galveston region as a Category 2 hurricane on September 13, 2008. It is estimated to cause a total of $37.5 billion in damage, making it the third costliest storm in United States history.
Christchurch, NZ Earthquakes - 2010-2011
In 2010 Christchurch, New Zealand sustained a 7.1 magnitude earthquake followed by many aftershocks including a 6.3 magnitude in February 2011 and a 6.0 magnitude quake in June. This caused widespread damage costing the equivelant of $17.2 billion US.
Hurricane Irene - 2011
Hurricane Irene made landfall in southeastern New Jersey. Torrential rain caused eleven rivers in the state to rise to record levels which resulted in significant flooding. Over 2,000 roads, including 500-plus miles of state highways, washed out. The storm caused over $730 million in total estimated damage.
Hurricane Isaac - 2012
Hurricane Isaac was a strong and large Cape Verde hurricane that lasted through late September and early October 2000. At 6:45pm on August 28th, Hurricane Isaac made a brief landfall along the coast of southeast Louisiana in Plaquemines Parish. There was a total of 5 fatalities in the United States with about $2.35 billion property damage
Superstorm Sandy - 2012
Hurricane Sandy (unofficially referred to as Superstorm Sandy) was the deadliest, most destructive, and strongest hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season. Hurricane Sandy made landfall in New Jersey. The storm inflicted nearly $70 billion (2012 USD) in damage and killed 233 people across eight countries from the Caribbean to Canada.
Hurricane Matthew - 2016
Hurricane Matthew was a category 5 hurricane that later made landfalls as a major hurricane along the coasts of southwestern Haiti, extreme eastern Cuba, and western Grand Bahama Island, and as a category 1 hurricane along the central coast of South Carolina. Damage from Matthew across the United States reached approximately $10 billion.
Cyclones Cook & Debbie - 2017
In 2017 Cyclones Cook and Debbie combined to cause widespread flooding and damage throughout the North Island of New Zealand. Damages were estimated to have surpassed $135 million NZ.
Hurricane Harvey - 2017
Hurricane Harvey was a devastating Category 4 hurricane that made landfall on Texas and Louisiana in August 2017, causing catastrophic flooding and more than 100 deaths. It is tied with 2005's Hurricane Katrina as the costliest tropical cyclone on record, inflicting $125 billion in damage. This made the storm the costliest natural disaster recorded in Texas at the time
Hurricane Irma - 2017
Hurricane Irma made landfall in Cudjoe Key in the Florida Keys as a Category 4 hurricane, and a second landfall that afternoon in southwest Florida near Marco Island as a Category 3 hurricane in September of 2017. Irma cause 50 billion dollars in damages in Florida alone.
Hurricane Maria - 2017
Hurricane Maria was a deadly Category 5 hurricane that devastated the Caribbean in September 2017, particularly Dominica, Saint Croix, and Puerto Rico. It is regarded as the worst natural disaster in recorded history to affect those islands. The total monetary losses are estimated at upwards of $91.61 billion, mostly in Puerto Rico, ranking it as the third-costliest tropical cyclone on record.
Hurricane Florence - 2018
Hurricane Florence was a powerful and long-lived Cape Verde hurricane that caused catastrophic damage in the Carolinas in September 2018, primarily because of freshwater flooding due to torrential rain. Hurricane Florence caused 24.23 billion dollars in damages.
Hurricane Michael - 2018
Hurricane Michael was the first Category 5 hurricane on record to impact the Florida Panhandle in 2018. Hurricane Michael killed at least 45 people, damaged 60,000 homes and caused about $25 billion in total damages, including $18.4 billion in Florida
Hurricane Laura - 2020
Hurricane Laura was a powerful category 4 that made landfall in southwestern Louisiana on August 27, 2020 it was the most expensive weather event of the year, costing $19 billion.
Hurricane Delta - 2020
Hurricane Delta was the record-tying fourth named storm of 2020 to make landfall in Louisiana. Delta was a category 4 hurricane. It made two landfalls, both at category 2 intensity, on the Yucatan Peninsula and in southwestern Louisiana. Hurricane Delta cost 2.9 billion dollars in damages to the Unites States.
Hurricane Zeta - 2020
Hurricane Zeta was a 2020 late-season major hurricane that made landfall on the Yucatán Peninsula and then in southeastern Louisiana. The hurricane caused 5 direct fatalities and about $4.4 billion in damage in the United States.
Hurricane Ida - 2021
Hurricane Ida was a deadly and extremely destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane in 2021. In terms of maximum sustained winds at landfall (150 mph), Ida tied 2020's Hurricane Laura and the 1856 Last Island hurricane as the strongest on record to hit the state. Ida is the fifth-costliest tropical cyclone on record, and the fourth-costliest Atlantic hurricane in the United States, having caused at least $75.25 billion in damages.
Hurricane Ian - 2022
Hurricane Ian was a large and destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane that was the deadliest hurricane to strike the state of Florida since the 1935 Labor Day hurricane. Ian caused widespread damage across western Cuba and the southeast United States, especially the states of Florida and South Carolina causing an estimated $113 Billion in damages.
Hurricane Nicole - 2022
Hurricane Nicole became only the third November hurricane on record to make landfall in Florida. Nicole crossed the same region in Florida devastated six weeks earlier by Hurricane Ian, and was the first hurricane to make landfall on Florida's east coast since Katrina in 2005 causing an estimated $500 million in damages.
